What the Freethought Family Campout May Be Like

Here is sort of how I envision that the campout in Lake Isabella for nonreligious (freethought) adults and families might work.

I would expect that some folks will be able to make it there on Friday and others on Saturday - due to work and school obligations.

On Friday, people would check in to their lodging arrangements. In the evening we can meet at a local restaurant if folks want to do that OR we can meet at a campground or another location to do star gazing, campfire, meet and greet, storytelling, marshmallows, etc.

On Saturday, some folks might be still arriving to check into their lodging. We could arrange to meet at a local sanctuary or refuge for some birdwatching and wildlife viewing early in the morning. Other folks may wish to go on a hike depending on their health and energy levels. Folks could meet for breakfast and maybe do a picnic lunch at a campground / day use location. In the afternoon, the kids could do some crafts and the adults could relax or go on another short hike. Someone could talk about an interest of their and perhaps demonstrate it like geocaching or geology or tracking - you get the idea. Saturday evening could involve a potluck (don't worry there are local stores and food places) and another campfire with activities like Friday evening.

Sunday would run very similar to Saturday during the morning. We can discuss possible activities or outings on this list. I figure many people might want to leave a little after lunch especially since check-out time is normally between 11:30am - 1pm. We could have lunch at a local restaurant, exchange contact info, and hopefully plan for a follow-up campout (perhaps in the Yosemite area) in the fall if this is successful.

How does this sound?

Dave

Also feel free to distribute this to whomever you feel might be interested. There is not much time to get their lodging arrangements so they would need to e-mail me at davesalyers at yahoo dot com as soon as possible to be included. Thanks!

By the way, I wanted to add that you do not need to tent or RV camp to attend this campout. The beauty of this area is that there are many motel, hotel, B&B, and other lodging options for those unable (or unwilling) to "rough it". If you would like more info about lodging options for the campout, please feel free to e-mail me at davesalyers at yahoo dot com.
