Born the son of a railroad man, Oildale native Haggard is considered one of country music's premiere singers and songwriters. Recorded dozens of top 10 hits throughout the 1960s and '70s.
He was pardoned by Gov. Ronald Reagan in 1972 for crimes committed in his youth, appeared on the cover of Time magazine in 1974, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1994.
